Fall Home Maintenance: Preparing Your Glacier Home for Cooler Months

For Sale: 87 Glacier Club Trail

As the crisp air of fall settles in, it’s the perfect time to prepare your Glacier home for the cooler months ahead. Whether your home sits along the pine-lined fairway of the Mountain Course or tucked away near the Mountain Clubhouse, these fall maintenance tips will help protect your investment and keep things running smoothly throughout the winter.

1. Inspect and Clean Gutters and Downspouts

With falling leaves in abundance, clogged gutters and downspouts can quickly become an issue. Clear them out to prevent water damage and ice dams once temperatures drop. A clean gutter system is key to avoiding costly foundation or roof repairs later.

2. Winterize Your Landscaping

Trim back trees and shrubs, rake leaves, and make sure your irrigation system is winter-ready. Protect any sensitive plants and shrubs from frost, and consider adding mulch to help them retain moisture through the colder months. If you need assistance with winterizing your sprinkler systems, please contact Cory Heron, Glacier’s Landscaping Manger, at [email protected]

3. Roof and Chimney Inspection

Before winter arrives, check your roof for any damaged shingles, cracks, or other issues that could worsen with snow and ice. If you plan to use your fireplace, ensure your chimney is clean and safe to use by scheduling an inspection.

For Sale: 160 Cliffs Edge Drive

4. Seal Windows and Doors

Drafty windows and doors can drive up heating costs and make your home less comfortable. Check for any gaps or drafts and apply weatherstripping or caulking as needed to keep the warm air in and the cold air out.

5. Service Your HVAC System

A well-functioning heating system is essential as winter approaches. Schedule a service check to ensure everything is running efficiently and to avoid any unexpected breakdowns during the coldest months.

6. Store or Cover Outdoor Furniture

While Glacier offers stunning outdoor experiences year-round, it’s smart to protect your patio furniture during the harsher weather. Storing or covering outdoor furniture will keep it in great shape for the spring.

7. Test Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Colder months often mean more time indoors and the potential use of fireplaces and heaters. Be sure to test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, replacing batteries if necessary, to keep your home safe.

8. Stock Up on Winter Supplies

Now’s the time to stock up on firewood, snow shovels, and de-icing salt so you’re prepared when the first snow hits. Being ready ahead of time will make managing winter weather much easier.
